“With Realizations of Empathy” by Jasmin Ivanković

On empathy,
Jasmin Ivankovic
Love
Poems,
For I’ll forever know what I’ve known,
But not how I’ve seen.
I’ll recall most things,
but not always
What they mean.
With realizations of empathy.
You’ll know I’m kind and gentle.
A man you could maybe need.
You’re surely what your family wanted,
You even met their needs.
I’m just as I’ve always wanted.
‘To be’ is not what ‘it used to be’.
But ‘to think’ or ‘not to think’
in reality comes first,
When you’re me.
It’s kindness to my senses,
The way you seem.
When nothing could take it back
I saw a sign from you
and what you feel.
With realizations of empathy.
I’ll open with
Something you’ve never rehersed.
You’ll tell me what it means…
To start over, again.
I’ll know it meant
Something else
to your sentimentality.
And sometimes,
It’s easy to forget how to be,
So I’ll write reminders in my head.
I know you’ll doubt
How much such reminders matter
For what they meant – but, to me,
It’s besides the point.
I’ll take the love I can get.
With realizations of empathy;
I’ll forever know
The great effort my hands knew,
As they often speak,
Like my body,
Before a word uttered.
‘I’m in love with you,’ you muttered,
With realizations of empathy.
The Only Answer
I’m alive to see the answer.
I knew it held the right solution, dear.
I was but your eager friend,
not to ever be afraid of fear.
I’m alive with you on the planet Earth,
with more ideas to give away, but
What created me isn’t clear.
I knew the process was a pain.
I knew the concept was sincere.
I held on to the reason,
The uniqueness, too.
I knew, against all odds,
It was true.
I believed that in your mind was the key,
Also that it comes at a cost to me.
A sacrifice is one of any beneficial loss.
So tell me, love,
Is it the only answer we know?
Is it the only answer we need?
Is it the only answer?
I guess it must be.
I’m still thinking that
It is what it was,
And so are we
– the same
As we were.
I’m, too, dreaming that
I’m leading as I was,
And I’ll land with you
– the same
As we were.
I know I’m a lucky man.
I know I’m great.
I know it’s easy,
Just see past the hate.
I know I’m conscious.
I know I’m late.
I feel the moment,
Before you find faith.
“Good,” was the only word she could use to describe the ways so to choose.
“I’m alive” was the phrase that flipped like a switch, making her life begin, making every day a win.
“I’ll start anew,” never would I want to; it goes without say, but maybe a stronger maybe so I’ll start today.
Thank you to the indivisible, you know who you are.
An understanding of time.
Practicing patience as a realistic step, keeping love-as-it-develops always in mind, as it becomes more true – I know you, I know you’re one-of-a-kind.
I’m wishing away in the way, ‘you know one of those dreams.’ As have I. If I knew how to tell it, I’d try.
Thank you,
Jasmin
Spent the time
Finding distance.
I’m here,
Just like you,
All alone in existence.
And I’ve cried but
Nothing wanes my persistence.
As I leave,
As I should,
Purely because
Someone wished it.
And now I cannot decide
What it means,
For me,
To have missed it.
Just know that it’s not your fault
That I left.
Never had to be the one
You need.
To The Stranger,
A Forgotten Friend
No matter your first move,
Make your next one count.
Purpose finds herself lost in doubt,
She’d never sell her soul,
She’d never burn out.
Friendship knows that
You need someone like Trust.
Open your eyes,
Expand your mind,
Go without Lust.
Consciousness found, deep down,
That he fell for both
Escape and Love.
Love adores him conditionally; because
She knows he cares unconditionally for his wife.
Escape loves Infinity and tells him to stare.
He remembers days from after Summer,
Where he lives with Truth, bringing
A cold and empty “take care.”
Consciousness repeats to himself:
I know I’m complete inside,
I know I’m complete inside.
